In Korea, there is a campaign called “Good Downloader”. It aims for protecting legal rights of film producesr and actors, encouraging the public to pay appropriate money for downloading movies. Illegal downloading does not only include films, but also softwares, pictures, and other programs that has a clear producer who has his or her own rights toward their works. Therefore, it is obvious that illegal downloading is not a victimless crime and that it can damage one’s legal rights.
It is no exaggeration to say that illegal downloading is as same as stealing. It is an act that harms one’s property. Taking others own property without his or her permission and using for one’s own purpose is definitley ‘stealing’. Therefore, illegal downloading is a problem that has to be solved in this informaion-oriented era where there is always a possibility that one’s rights can be violated.
